Gerorge Luca is a man who refuced to give up, even when faced with the massive faluire that was his first move, THX 1138, he refused to ive up on film making. Wich worked out well for him, becasue his second movie, American Graffiti, with the low production cost of $780,000 made over $100 million dollers at the box office. this movie earned five Academy Award nominations and is still considered the greatest low budget movie ever made.

Now that Lucas had won back the confidence of his supporters, he set out to make a children's Saturday morning serial that would be part fairy tale, part Flash Gordon and complete fantasy and a adventure set in space. The project eventually evolved into a full-length feature film, called Star Wars. George Lucas did not actually know if Star wars would be sucessful to any extent, but he held out hope, so he made sure that the main antaganist, Darth Vader, survived in the end of the story. Thank god he did, because star wars was made for $11 million dollers, but it in turn made $513 million dollers.

Lucas continued the story of the Jedi Knights and the Dark Side in The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and The Return of the Jedi (1983). He went on the create the prequals starting with The Phantom Menace(1999), followed by Attack of the clones(2002), and ending with Revenge of the Sith in 2005 which was met with mixed responses. This was because people found the prequel trilogy childish while on the other hand the original trilogy was more gritty and serious. George Lucas defended his movies by saying that they were meant for kids, not for the adults.
